Living as an expat in France for so many years taught me that the grass is greener syndrome is very real. It’s called nostalgia, and is the odd pull of time and place. I longed for Northern California for 30 years. Now I’m back on my native turf in Marin County, and longing for what I left behind in France. There’s a piece of me here, a piece there, and yet throughout my various uprootings and re-rootings, I’ve understood that home is an internal place. Home is where the heart is, and the heart can be open and at peace anywhere.
