Landscapes Southern France

Despite living an expat life in France 27 years, and most of that time in Paris, being Californian always defined who I am: namely a hopeful optimist in need of nature, bright sun and light. The subjects I chose to express in this Southern France series are contemporary landscapes of the much adored Southern France I moved to after 22 years of urban dwelling under Paris’s relentlessly grey skies.
I worked with texture and vibrant, bold color built up in multiple layers and glazes. My landscapes are semi-abstract to abstract poetic interpretations of my environment in Cassis including, magical gardens with their sweet smells , the turquoise and deep orange underwater scenes, the pink and bright white cliffs built up over millions of years, villages that have retained their authentic charm, sparkling ocean and wide expanses of sky.
It was a sweet and treasured time.
